Htin Kyaw has been sworn in as the new President of Myanmar. This has been achieved after five decades of military rule in the country. Aung San Suu Kyi, the democracy icon and leader of the ruling party was appointed as the minister of foreign affairs., education and energy. He will also hold the president's office portfolio.
The 70-year-old Htin Kyaw was sworn in a joint session of Myanmar’s newly elected parliament with his two vice presidents at his side.
