The Swedish scientists at Wallenberg Wood Science Center in Stockholm have developed a material which is stronger than glass. Dubbed as "Transparent Wood", this material can be used tougher wood-based windows and even cheaper wood-covered solar cells. It can be used in building materials and could help in reducing the costs s well. Wood contains a structural polymer called "lignin" that blocks 80 to 95 percent of light from passing through. In their experiment, the researchers removed the light-absorbing lignin component from samples of commercial balsa wood.
