The Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) reported that the 18 day strike initiated by the jewellery industry has caused a loss of 60,000-70,000 crore to the jewellery industry. The protest was against the proposed 1% excise duty of non-silver jewellery. A three member committee is supposed to submit a report to the government on the issue.
